VistaLink NV and its partner in Three-Dimensional (3D) Machine Vision, announce the receipt of a $3M purchase order for their Predator3D™ Process Control systems. This order indicates an acceleration of industry acceptance of 3D machine vision technology to control the adhesive and sealant dispensing process. Five global line builders will implement multiple Predator3D systems in two vehicle assembly plants. Implementation will begin during the second half of 2019 through the first half of 2020.
To reduce weight, manufacturers are using highly engineered materials such as aluminum, magnesium, special plastics, carbon fiber, and special steel alloys. Traditional welding is not effective in joining of these dissimilar materials. This has paved the way for an industry shift toward using structural adhesives for joining. However, adhesives can be challenging because poor adhesive application quality can lead to leaks and reduced structural integrity.
Predator3D systems provide real time feedback while dispensing for optimum process control and automatic repair. Predator3D ensures the proper adhesive and/or sealant volume is dispensed at correct location in real-time with no cycle time impact. Compared to temperamental 2D vision bead inspection, Predator3D is not affected by changes of ambient lighting or part color, and therefore can control the dispensing process even in black-on-black or gray-on-gray situations.
